Summer is a Great Time to Catch Up on Skills
Looking for a way to keep up on skills learned this past school year? Summer is an excellent time to focus on your child’s education. Without the distraction of rigid schedules, many parents find summer the perfect opportunity for educational growth. Here are some ways you can help your child succeed:
1. Set a time every day for learning. Often, if you dont plan the activity in advance, time will slip away. Try buying a workbook from a teacher supply store that is geared towards a skill that your child needs to review. Every day at the same time, have your child do a few pages from the book. Children love the feeling of completing something, and there are inner rewards that come from the accomplishment of mastering a skill.
2. Make learning fun. Try new skills that will sneak in learning, like gardening, cooking, Lego engineering, design, and other skills that your child may be interested in. When a child sees that math can be applied to every day skills, he may be more enthusiastic about it.
3. Children learn when they are interested in a subject. Find something your child is interested in, and take a trip to the local library. Check out some books on the subject, and have your child write a report, including illustrations. You may be surprised at how much they enjoy doing this, when it is a subject they are interested in learning.
Most of all, remember to enjoy the learning process with your child. Learning is a process, not a destination.
We would love to be of assistance to summer learning with your family. Our tutors are passionate about education, and enjoy the process.
